QUEENS, NEW YORK (July 30, 2025) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in an Ozone Park, Queens hit-and-run collision near 101st Ave. and 116th St.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place on Tuesday night. A man in his 50s was struck by a black SUV that fled the scene of the collision.
Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim. He was transported to a nearby hospital with major trauma.
Authorities are trying to determine what may have led up to the Ozone Park collision.
Pedestrians often lack the protection of motor vehicles and are uniquely vulnerable in car accidents. They are much more vulnerable to being seriously injured or killed in collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “Pedestrian fatalities as a percent of all traffic fatalities increased steadily from 2005 through 2018, from 11.2% to 17.3%, respectively. The percentage of pedestrian deaths has now increased for three consecutive years, accounting for 17.9% in 2023.” Drivers should take several actions to avoid hitting pedestrians.
Drivers must exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. They must be particularly cautious around any child or obviously confused or incapacitated person. When turning, they should check their blind spots for any pedestrians that may be attempting to cross. When a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Most pedestrian accidents involve some amount of driver error.
The vast majority of pedestrian accidents are preventable. In fact, it has been estimated that 93% of pedestrian collisions involve some amount of human error. Sadly, drivers and their insurance providers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if a pedestrian is seriously injured or killed. This is why it is so important that victims of pedestrian accidents seek the guidance of an experienced New York pedestrian accident attorney.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the pedestrian injured in this collision. It is our hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong. Any person that may have more information should reach out to the NYPD.
