BROOKLYN, CALIFORNIA (July 19, 2024) – A 1-year-old baby was seriously injured in a Brooklyn collision with a possibly drunk driver along Mother Gaston Boulevard.
New York City police officials are saying that the collision took place around 7:00 p.m. on Monday. A driver went through a red light on Mother Gaston Boulevard and collided with an Acura TLX.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims. A 1-year-old sustained a skull fracture and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Driver intoxication is a suspected factor in the crash. An investigation into the Brooklyn collision remains ongoing at this time.
Driver intoxication remains a leading cause of motor vehicle collisions in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “even a small amount of alcohol can affect driving ability. In 2022, there were 2,337 people killed in alcohol-related crashes where a driver had a BAC of .01 to .07 g/dL. BAC is measured with a breathalyzer, a device that measures the amount of alcohol in a driver’s breath, or by a blood test.” Alcohol can impair drivers in a number of ways.
It is illegal for any driver to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. But what many drivers do not realize is that alcohol is not the only substance that could potentially impair them. Even over-the-counter medications could significantly impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle in a safe manner. Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
A car accident can often be one of the most stressful parts of a person’s life. These collisions often leave people with serious injuries and their families saddled with medical debt. To make matters worse, insurance providers will often deny responsibility if someone is injured in a collision. This is why it is so important to seek legal advice as early as possible after a collision. A car accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our best wishes to the victim of this collision and their family. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
