WEST HARLEM, NEW YORK (June 22, 2025) – At least 35 people were injured after a large cocktail cruise ship collided with a Hudson River dock at the West Harlem Piers.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:18 p.m. on Saturday. The mega yacht was attempting to dock when it collided with a piling.
There were an estimated 352 people aboard the vessel at the time of the collision. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victims.
At least 22 people were transported to local area hospitals in order to receive treatment. Witnesses are saying that the captain was having issues getting the boat in place prior to the accident.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.
Boat accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury across New York in the United States. According to the United States Coast Guard, “The fatality rate was 4.9 deaths per 100,000 registered recreational vessels, a 9.3 percent decrease from last year’s rate of 5.4 deaths per 100,000 registered recreational vessels. (In 1971, when the Safe Boating Act was first passed, the rate was 20.6 deaths per 100,000 registered recreational vessels.)” Many different factors could contribute to a boat accident.
Boat operators have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid accidents. They must follow all safety procedures when embarking or docking their vessel. If a boat operator fails to use reasonable care to avoid colliding with fixed objects, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any boat accident.
It can be hard to know what to do if you or a loved one has been injured in a boat accident. These incidents often result in very serious injuries and high medical bills. Affected parties may need to take substantial periods of time away from work. To make matters worse. Boat operators will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility if they cause a serious collision. This is why it is so important that victims seek the guidance of an experienced New York City boat accident attorney.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this West Harlem mega yacht accident. It is our sincere hope that all of the victims will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable incident that should not have taken place.
