Box Truck Collided With Parked Van, Pushing It Into a Group of People on the Eighth Avenue Sidewalk
MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN (November 25, 2025) – At least 10 people were injured in a midtown Manhattan box truck accident on Eighth Avenue near West 29th Street.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 4 PM on Monday. A box truck was heading northbound on Eighth Avenue when it struck a parked work van.
The force of the impact pushed the van onto the sidewalk, causing it to strike multiple pedestrians. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help all of the victims.
A total of 10 people were taken to the hospital. The driver of the box truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. Many of these collisions involve trucks. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 5,375 large trucks were involved in a fatal crash, an 8.4% decrease from 2022 but a 43% increase in the last 10 years. The involvement rate per 100 million large-truck miles traveled is down 8% from 2022, but up 22% in the last 10 years.” Truck drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.
Truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid collisions. This necessitates that they maintain their vehicles at a safe speed at all times. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
It can be hard to know where to begin after any truck accident. The victims may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They may also be left with high medical bills. Unfortunately, the drivers that cause these accidents will virtually never accept responsibility. This is why it is so important for victims to take time to consider their legal options with an experienced attorney. An attorney may be able to help victims recover damages through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the pedestrians injured in this Midtown, Manhattan box truck accident. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable collision that should not have taken place.
