Worker Died In Hudson Yards Construction Accident After Falling Down Hole

Worker Fell Down 50-Foot Hole in Fatal Hudson Yards Construction Accident

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (October 25, 2025) – A worker has tragically died in a Hudson Yards, Manhattan construction accident after falling more than 50 feet down a hole.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. A worker fell more than five stories into an underground hole.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Despite medical efforts to revive him at the hospital, he was pronounced dead. A full investigation by OSHA remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Manhattan Construction Accidents

Falls remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death for construction workers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “In 2023, about 1 in 5 (20.8 percent) workplace deaths occurred in the construction industry and 38.5 percent of these deaths were due to falls, slips, and trips. The construction industry accounted for 47.8 percent of all fatal falls, slips, and trips in 2023.” There are many steps that construction companies should take to prevent falls.

  • Construction workers should be provided with fall protection when they work at heights of six feet or more.
  • Construction companies should ensure that there are not unguarded holes in an active site that a worker may fall down.
  • Construction companies should conduct a risk assessment of construction sites.

Construction companies and general contractors can be held strictly liable for gravity-related accidents under New York’s scaffold law. This includes instances where a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. The vast majority of these accidents are preventable and the result of major workplace violations. Construction workers may suffer many different types of injuries in falls.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Lacerations

Safety should always be the first priority for any construction company. But in far too many instances, that is not the case. It is fairly common for construction companies to push their workers to complete projects as quickly as possible. In this type of environment, safety considerations can get overlooked. The family of any worker who died in a construction accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
