An investigation into the cause of the Burlington County truck accident remains ongoing.
Thousands of people are killed or seriously injured in collisions with commercial trucks every year. According to the National Safety Council, “A total of 5,936 people died in large-truck crashes in 2022. The number of deaths increased 2% from 2021 and is up 49% in the last 10 years. The majority of deaths in large-truck crashes are occupants of other vehicles (70%), followed by truck occupants (19%), and non-occupants, primarily pedestrians and bicyclists (11%).” Truck drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid collisions.
Truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise a great deal of care in order to avoid colliding with other vehicles. Many truck accidents are due to drivers that are speeding. Pursuant to New Jersey Vehicle Code 39:4-98, all drivers have a legal obligation to operate their vehicle at a safe speed. They must not travel faster than would be reasonable and safe given the prevailing conditions of the roadway. It is important that certain steps are taken after any semi-truck accident.
Truck accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to be the result of truck drivers that are traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. Sadly, though, truck companies will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility for a collision. This is why it is important that all truck accidents are thoroughly investigated by an outside party.
