Many workers are injured every year at job sites across the United States. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Private industry employers reported 2.6 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses in 2023, down 8.4 percent from 2022, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. This decrease was driven by a 56.6-percent drop in illnesses to 200,100 cases in 2023, the lowest number since 2019.” The vast majority of these incidents are preventable when safety standards are strictly adhered to.
Depending on the facts of any case, an employer could be liable for a workplace injury under Labor Law § 200. This law requires owners and contractors to provide a safe workspace for their employees. If an accident stemmed from a dangerous condition at a property, liability may attach to the owner or contractor responsible for the worksite. Victims of industrial accidents often suffer very serious injuries.
The vast majority of workplace accidents are preventable. They tend to be the result of numerous safety lapses. This can include having work areas that are cluttered. Victims of workplace accidents are often left with high medical bills and may need to take extensive periods of time away from work. They can seek some measure of accountability through a civil action.
