Pedestrian Thrown Into The Air After Inwood Collision Involving Corvette and Mercedes-Benz
INWOOD, MANHATTAN (August 21, 2026) – At least two people were injured in an Inwood, Manhattan car accident near the intersection of W. 204th St. and Sherman Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the collision occurred on August 20. A pedestrian was standing at the corner of the intersection when a black Mercedes-Benz SUV was involved in a collision with a Corvette.
The force of the impact caused one of the vehicles to suddenly enter the sidewalk and collide with the pedestrian. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all of the victims.
At least two people were injured in the crash, including the pedestrian who was thrown into the air. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
New York law imposes duties on drivers when any pedestrian may be nearby. In particular, New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1146 requires drivers “shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” Drivers should be particularly cautious when passing through a busy intersection. Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with another vehicle, they could be held legally responsible for any resulting injuries in a civil claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver who departs from a roadway and collides with a pedestrian on a sidewalk. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for any collision. This is particularly true if one vehicle was speeding, and the other vehicle did not have the right of way before entering an intersection.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Manhattan pedestrian accident. It is our hope that they will be able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into the role that speed and driver distraction may have played.
