E-Scooter Operator Injured in Medford Delivery Truck Accident

Woman Seriously Injured in Medford Delivery Truck Accident on Lake Drive

MEDFORD, NEW YORK (August 21, 2026) – A woman on an e-scooter was seriously injured in a Medford delivery truck accident while traveling down Lake Drive.

Suffolk County officials are saying that the incident occurred around 1:20 PM on Tuesday afternoon. A woman was driving a 2019 FedEx delivery truck when she attempted to make a right turn.

While making that right turn, the delivery truck driver collided with another woman riding a scooter. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim.

She was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital to receive treatment for major injuries. A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Medford Truck Accidents

Truck drivers in New York are expected to operate their vehicles with all of the care and diligence necessary to avoid causing serious harm. This requires that they maintain a safe speed and abide by all traffic regulations. Pursuant to New York Vehicle and Traffic Law § 1163, no person shall turn a vehicle at an intersection unless it is in the proper position and the movement can be performed with reasonable safety. There are several factors that courts will consider when determining liability for any collision involving a truck.

  • It matters whether or not the vehicle involved had the proper traffic signal before initiating the turn.
  • It matters who owns the vehicle involved. Under New York law, vehicle owners are liable for accidents caused by the negligent operation of their vehicle.
  • It matters whether or not any driver was performing some type of official work at the time of a collision.
  • It matters whether or not a truck driver may have been distracted prior to hitting any pedestrian.

If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with any pedestrian, this could be used to demonstrate negligence. Consider, for example, Rosario v. Scudieri, 250 A.D.3d 982 (App. Div. 2d Dep’t 2026). A bicyclist was crossing an intersection when they were hit by a vehicle making a right turn. The New York Appellate Division Court held the plaintiff provided sufficient evidence to establish the driver failed to signal the turn and began turning before it was reasonably safe to do so.
