Liability For Staten Island Car Accidents

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, “The agency estimates that 40,990 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2023, a decrease of about 3.6% as compared to 42,514 fatalities reported to have occurred in 2022. The fourth quarter of 2023 represents the seventh consecutive quarterly decline in fatalities beginning with the second quarter of 2022.” There are many common causes of car accidents.

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions

If a driver fails to exercise care in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a civil claim. In particular, a number of collisions involve at least one speeding driver. What many drivers don’t realize is that even driving the speed limit could be dangerous in certain weather and roadway conditions. It is crucial that victims of car accidents take certain steps in order to preserve their rights.

  • A police report of the collision should be created.
  • Surveillance footage from nearby businesses or street lights should be reviewed.
  • The circumstances leading up to the crash should be understood.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

It can be hard to know where to begin after any car accident. This is especially true when a family has to prepare a funeral for their loved one. To make matters worse, drivers and their insurance providers will go to great lengths to avoid any responsibility. That is why it is so important for accident victims and their families to seek the guidance of an experienced personal injury attorney.
