Investigation Underway After Three People Died In Manhattan Car Accident Involving Intoxicated Truck Driver
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (July 18, 2025) -Three people have tragically died after a truck driver went into a crowded Manhattan park while allegedly intoxicated.
New York City police officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday night. Families were gathering at the Manhattan park in order to observe the fireworks.
An out-of-control truck driver went into the Manhattan park and hit several people. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.
The truck driver has since been arrested on charges of driver intoxication.
Trucks can weigh tens of thousands of pounds and can be particularly dangerous for pedestrians. According to the IIHS, “Most deaths in large truck crashes are passenger vehicle occupants. The main problem is the vulnerability of people traveling in smaller vehicles. Trucks often weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars and are taller with greater ground clearance, which can result in smaller vehicles underriding trucks in crashes.” Truck drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid hitting pedestrians.
Truck drivers must obtain a commercial driver license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. They must exercise a great deal of caution in order to avoid collisions. No person operating a commercial vehicle shall drive with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.04% or higher. What many truck drivers may not realize is that there are a number of substances, besides alcohol, that could impair them.
Drunk driving remains alarmingly common. By the time that a driver is arrested for DUI, it is common for them to have driven while intoxicated dozens of times. Any person who is injured due to the negligence of a drunk driver may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
