BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (March 31, 2025) – A mother and two children were killed and 10 other people were injured in a horrific multi-vehicle collision in Midwood, Brooklyn.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 1:00 PM on Ocean Parkway by Quentin Road. A mother and her children were crossing the street.
Two vehicles were involved in a collision, which sent an Audi into the pedestrians crossing the road. Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victims.
The 34-year-old woman and her two daughters were both pronounced dead at the scene. A four-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition.
The crash resulted in the Audi becoming airborne and rolling over. Multiple people in the vehicles involved were also injured and taken to the hospital.
A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
Speeding remains one of the most common causes of pedestrian and vehicle collisions. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, killing 12,151, or an average of over 33 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,922.” Speeding can negatively impact a person’s ability to drive safely in many different ways.
Every driver has a legal obligation to take reasonable precautions in order to avoid hitting pedestrians and other vehicles. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down in order to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.
It is common for drivers to deny liability when they are involved in a collision. The evidence left behind after a car accident could help paint a clear picture of what happened, regardless of what any person may claim. For example, a lack of skidmarks on the roadway may indicate that a driver didn’t even attempt to brake prior to hitting a pedestrian. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the woman and children killed in a horrific collision. It is our sincere hope that all the other victims will be able to make a full recovery. This was a preventable collision that should’ve never taken place.
