QUEENS, NEW YORK (August 2, 2025) – At least six people were injured in a Queens multi-vehicle collision involving a BMW on the Belt Parkway near Cross Bay Boulevard.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 6 AM on Saturday. A BMW was headed east on the Belt Parkway when the driver lost control and launched over a concrete barrier.
That BMW ended up colliding with a Honda CRV and Hyundai. The BMW eventually caught fire after the crash.
Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims. Two people were listed in critical condition and six were injured overall.
Speed remains one of the most common causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2023, killing 11,775, or an average of over 32 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,541.” Speeding can increase the odds of a motor vehicle collision in several ways.
All drivers in New York must exercise due care to avoid colliding with other drivers in the roadway. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1180, the driver of a motor vehicle shall not drive at a speed greater than would be reasonable or prudent given the prevailing traffic conditions. When a driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision with another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain actions are taken after any car accident.
Car accidents can be extremely disruptive to a person’s life in the best of circumstances. Victims often need to take lengthy periods of time away from work. They may also be left with high medical bills. Any person injured in a car accident may be able to pursue damages through a civil action.
