Several People Injured in Flushing, Queens MTA Bus Collision Along Sanford Avenue

12 Reported Injured in Flushing, Queens Bus Accident Near Bowne Street and Sanford Avenue

FLUSHING, QUEENS (February 5, 2026) – At least 12 people were injured in a Flushing, Queens MTA bus accident near the intersection of Bowne Street and Sanford Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:00 AM on Monday. A Q27 bus was headed westbound on Sanford Avenue when it was involved in a collision with a vehicle.

Authorities believe that the bus may have had some type of mechanical issue with the brakes prior to the collision. Paramedics were called to the scene to help all of the victims.

In all, 12 people were reported to have been injured in the crash.

Liability for Queens Bus Accidents

Car accidents remain a leading cause of preventable injury and death in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “2023 marks the second consecutive decrease in deaths. Deaths decreased 3% in 2023, following a 2% decrease in 2022. From 2019 to 2021, deaths increased by 20%. In 2023, 44,762 people died in motor-vehicle crashes compared to 46,027 in 2022 and 46,980 in 2021.” Buses can pose a number of risks to people in other vehicles.

  • Buses can weigh tens of thousands of pounds, thereby making them dangerous even at lower speeds.
  • Buses have a high ground clearance, which increases the odds that a pedestrian can get run over by the bus.
  • Buses have a wide turning radius, which makes them more susceptible to side impact collisions.

Bus drivers must obtain a commercial license and are held to a high standard in terms of safety. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Depending on the unique facts of any case, there could be several liable parties for any bus accident. This includes the company responsible for servicing a bus. If a service provider failed to keep the brakes on a bus in a safe condition, they could be liable for a collision.
