According to the NFSA, “the U.S. averages about 88,600 apartment building fires each year for the past ten years (2013-2022). In the 1980s, the U.S. averaged about 110,600 apartment building fires per year.” There are a number of common causes of residential fires.
Property owners have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for the protection of all people on a property whose presence is reasonably foreseeable. If a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their property, they must take action. In particular, there are a number of ways that a property owner can help prevent apartment fires.
When a property owner fails to protect the residence from a dangerous condition, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Any person injured in a residential fire may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. A personal injury claim can help accident victims recover many of the economic and non-economic damages that they suffer.
