Seven Injured In 5-Alarm Bronx Apartment Fire

Cause of Apartment Fire That Injured Seven People in the Bronx Remains Under Investigation

BRONX, NEW YORK (February 1, 2025) – At least seven people were injured in a five-alarm Bronx apartment fire along Wallace Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the incident took place around 1:45 AM on Friday. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help all of the victims.

A total of seven people were injured in the blaze. Hundreds of firefighters had to be called to eventually put out the fire.

Heavy wind conditions hampered efforts before the fire was eventually put out. A full investigation into the incident remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for New York City Apartment Fires

Residential fires remain one of the leading causes of preventable injury and death. According to the National Safety Council, “In 2023, 1,389,000 fires resulted in 3,670 civilian deaths and 13,350 injuries. In addition, there were 89 firefighter deaths. This firefighter fatal injury count is a decrease from the 97 fatal injuries in 2022 but is otherwise the second highest since 2013.” Apartment owners should take a number of measures in order to prevent apartment fires.

  • Apartment owners should ensure that their building is compliant with all fire code regulations.
  • Apartment owners should ensure that all exits are not obstructed.
  • Apartment owners should perform routine maintenance on electrical systems.

Apartment owners have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. This must be done for all persons whose presence on a property is reasonably foreseeable. When a property owner has actual or constructive notice of a dangerous condition on their property, they must take action. Failing to take action prior to a fire breaking out could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any apartment fire.

  • Accident victims should receive medical treatment.
  • A police report of the incident should be created.
  • The source of the fire should be determined.
  • An experienced personal injury attorney should be contacted.

The vast majority of apartment fires are preventable. They often involve safety lapses such as cooking accidents. Even if a fire cannot be prevented, certain measures such as smoke detectors can alert residents of impending danger. Any person injured in an apartment fire may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
