Liability for Long Island Car Accidents

Drivers must exercise caution to avoid colliding with motorcycles and other vehicles. Many collisions involve drivers making left turns. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Victims of car accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Organ damage

If a person was working at the time of a collision, they will typically be entitled to workers’ compensation. Workers’ compensation operates through a no-fault insurance scheme. There is no need for an injured worker to demonstrate that one party was at fault to receive benefits. An injured worker may also be able to pursue damages through a third-party liability claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
