NYS DOT Worker Seriously Injured in Car Accident on the LIE in Holtsville

Driver Accused of Operating Vehicle While Intoxicated in Crash That Injured NYS DOT Worker on the Long Island Expressway

HOLTSVILLE, NEW YORK (March 25, 2026)—A NYS DOT worker was seriously injured in a Holtsville car accident on the Long Island Expressway.

Long Island officials are saying that the accident took place around 9:40 PM on Thursday. A NYS worker responded to the scene of a previous collision.

That worker was hit by another driver suspected of DUI. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the injured victim.

He was transported to a local area hospital to receive treatment. A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Holtsville DUI Accidents

Driver intoxication remains a leading cause of preventable car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Alcohol-impaired driving continues to be one of the biggest safety issues on U.S. roads. In 2023, 12,429 people were killed in alcohol-impaired crashes, a decrease of 7.6%, marking the second consecutive yearly improvement.” Even low amounts of alcohol can seriously impair a person’s ability to drive safely.

  • Low amounts of alcohol can make it difficult for a driver to maintain a vehicle in a single lane of traffic.
  • Low amounts of alcohol can reduce a person’s inhibitions while driving.
  • Low amounts of alcohol can make it difficult for a person to track moving objects.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could be construed as negligence. Depending on the facts of any case, there could be multiple liable parties for any car accident. This includes a general contractor that may have failed to make a worksite along a roadway safe. Any person injured in a DUI car accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
