WALL TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY (April 4, 2025) – Several children were injured in Wall Township after a GMC van and a school bus collided along Interstate 195.
Monmouth County officials are saying that the accident took place around 7:20 a.m. on Thursday. A GMC van and school bus collided, possibly head-on.
The force of the impact caused the school bus to roll onto its side. Several children were injured in the crash, including one child who was seriously injured.
The victims were taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
School buses are normally very safe. But many people are still injured in school bus collisions each year. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 104 people nationwide in 2022, down 3.7% compared to the 108 deaths in 2021, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” School bus drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid collisions.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise care in order to avoid colliding with other vehicles on the roadway. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that crosses into opposing lanes of traffic and collides with another vehicle. If the driver of a commercial vehicle caused an accident, their employer could potentially be held at fault. Generally speaking, employers are vicariously liable for the wrongful actions of their employees. It is important that certain steps are taken after any school bus accident.
It could be hard to know where to begin after any bus accident. Victims are often seriously injured in ways that impact their lives far into the future. In many cases, a serious bus accident can impair a person’s ability to perform everyday activities and simply live a normal life. Any person that is injured in a school bus accident may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the victims of this Wall Township school bus accident. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. This was a preventable tragedy that should not have taken place. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to prevent similar incidents.
