Motorcyclist Killed in Queens Car Accident on the LIE

Teen Driver Involved in Deadly Collision With Motorcycle on the Long Island Expressway in Queens

QUEENS, NEW YORK (February 21, 2026) – A motorcyclist has tragically died in a car accident with an SUV on the Long Island Expressway in Queens.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 12:45 AM not far from exit 22A. A motorcyclist was rear-ended by an SUV and tossed in the air.

The victim was then hit by a second vehicle. Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim.

Sadly, that driver died due to the severity of their injuries.

Liability for Queens Car Accidents

Motorcyclists lack the protection of enclosed vehicles and are more likely to be seriously injured or killed in a car accident. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.6% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 15.5% of all traffic fatalities and 3.4% of all injuries in 2023. A factor that directly influences motorcycle fatality trends is helmet use.” Many different factors could contribute to any motorcycle collision.

  • Distracted driving
  • Inclement weather
  • Poor road conditions
  • Vehicle system failures
  • Driver intoxication

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a motorcycle in the roadway, this could be considered negligence. Drivers are supposed to maintain a safe speed and follow distance with all vehicles ahead of them at all times. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that collides with the rear of a vehicle in their own lane of traffic. The family of any person who died in a motorcycle accident may be able to see some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
