Man Seriously Injured in Suffolk County DWI Crash

Driver Arrested After DWI Crash on Wilson Drive Leaves Two People Injured

MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW YORK (August 28, 2026) – At least two people were injured in a Middle Island DWI car accident in front of 26 Wilson Drive.

Suffolk County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 12:05 AM on August 27. The driver of a 2017 Ford Taurus was involved in a collision with a parked Toyota.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help all of the victims. A 44-year-old occupant of the Toyota was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

Another person was transported to NYU Langone Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford Taurus has been charged with DWI.

Liability for Middle Island DWI Accidents

Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of preventable car accidents in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “Alcohol-impaired driving continues to be one of the biggest safety issues on U.S. roads. In 2024, 11,904  people were killed in alcohol-impaired crashes, a decrease of 3.9%, marking the third consecutive yearly improvement.” Even modest amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to operate their vehicle safely.

  • Alcohol can make it difficult for a driver to stay in their own lane of traffic.
  • Alcohol dramatically decreases a person’s reaction time.
  • Alcohol makes it difficult for drivers to track moving objects.
  • Alcohol makes it difficult for drivers to maintain the same speed.

It is illegal to operate a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher. There is a presumption of fault on the part of anyone who causes a motor vehicle collision under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Any person injured in a DWI collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
