Police Search for the Driver Who Struck and Killed a Man on Pitkin Avenue in East New York
EAST NEW YORK, NEW YORK (October 31, 2026) – A 46-year-old pedestrian has tragically died in an East New York hit-and-run collision on Pitkin Avenue.
Kings County officials are saying that the collision occurred around 1:03 AM on Sunday. A pedestrian was walking when they were struck by some type of vehicle.
EMS were called to the scene of the collision to help the victim who was later transported to Brookdale Hospital. His name has not been released at this time.
Unfortunately, he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The NYPD is encouraging anyone that may have more information to reach out to the NYPD Crime Stoppers.
New York’s Vehicle and Traffic Law § 600 requires that any driver involved in an injury collision remain at the scene and report the incident to the police. Leaving the scene of any injury collision can result in civil as well as criminal charges. Moreover, New York law requires drivers to exercise due care to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Drivers should take a number of different actions to avoid hitting pedestrians.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway, they could be held legally responsible for any resulting injuries. The ability to pursue damages in any civil action extends to the family of a person who died due to the negligence of another party. They are able to pursue a wrongful death claim. Unfortunately, drivers and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility for any major crash. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should contact the NYPD. There needs to be full accountability for the sake of all who’ve lost so much. Moreover, the number of pedestrian collisions along this section of roadway remains deeply concerning. City officials should consider measures that can help make this location safer.
