Man Killed in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Ambulance Accident

Motorcyclist Killed in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Ambulance Accident on Ashland Place by Willoughby Street

FORT GREENE, BROOKLYN (April 20, 2026) – A 65-year-old man has tragically died in a downtown Brooklyn motorcycle accident with an FDNY ambulance on Ashland Place.

New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 1:10 AM on Sunday. An ambulance was turning onto Willoughby Street when it collided with the motorcyclist.

The ambulance operator was apparently looking for a male in distress at the time of the collision. Paramedics and the ambulance began life-saving measures.

The victim was transported to Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Liability for Brooklyn Motorcycle Accidents

Drivers in New York must exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians and other vehicles. They must be particularly cautious when initiating a turn. Pursuant to NY Veh & Traf L § 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” Certain actions should be taken after any ambulance accident.

  • The police report for the incident should be collected.
  • All medical records related to the accident should be reviewed.
  • Surveillance footage that may have captured the crash should be sought.
  • The family of any person who died should seek an independent review by a team experienced in accident claims.

If an ambulance driver makes an unsafe turn and collides with a pedestrian, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of the road, this does not relieve a driver of their responsibility to slow down to avoid a collision. When an ambulance is involved in a collision, their employer could also be liable. As a general rule, employers in New York can be vicariously liable for the negligent actions of their workers who are operating within the course and scope of their job duties.
