Man Critically Injured in Uniondale Pedestrian Accident

Long Island Police Investigating Uniondale Collision That Left Pedestrian Critically Injured While Crossing Jerusalem Avenue

UNIONDALE, NEW YORK (August 7, 2026) – A pedestrian was seriously injured in a Uniondale car accident while trying to cross Jerusalem Avenue.

Long Island officials are saying that the incident occurred around 10 PM on Thursday, July 24. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadways when he was hit by a 2025 Nissan Pathfinder.

Medics were called to the scene of the collision to help the injured victim. He was transported to a nearby hospital and has since been listed in critical condition.

The 45-year-old driver of the Nissan Pathfinder remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. A full investigation by the Nassau County police remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Uniondale Pedestrian Accidents

Every person operating a motor vehicle in New York has a legal obligation to use due care to avoid foreseeable sources of harm. Drivers must be particularly cautious around any pedestrians that they encounter. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, “Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian, or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.” It is important that many different actions are taken after any Long Island pedestrian accident.

  • All of the surveillance footage that may have captured the collision should be collected and preserved.
  • Any person that may have witnessed what happened should be interviewed.
  • The history of collisions at the intersection should be studied.
  • Victims should carefully consider their legal options with a team experienced in personal injury claims.

If a driver does not slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian that they encounter, they could be legally responsible through a civil action. Even if a pedestrian is in the middle of the roadway, this does not remove a driver of their duty of care to avoid the collision. Victims of car accidents are protected by a number of laws. They are able to seek some measure of accountability of justice through a personal injury claim. Damages in a simple claim can help cover lost wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering.
