QUEENS VILLAGE, NEW YORK (June 12, 2025) – A 29-year-old pedestrian has tragically died in a Queens village semi truck accident near the intersection of Hollis Court, Boulevard and Hillside Avenue.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place on Friday morning. A pedestrian was crossing the intersection along Hillside Avenue when they were hit by a semi-truck.
The force of the impact left the victim with severe trauma to their body. Paramedics were called to the scene to help the victim.
They were taken to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing. Despite lifesaving measures, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A full investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Car accidents remain a leading cause of death and injury in New York. Pedestrians are particularly vulnerable. According to the New York Department of Health, “Approximately 300 pedestrians are killed and 15,000 are injured by motor vehicles each year on the state’s roadways, and more than 3,000 pedestrians are admitted to the hospital annually. It is important for both drivers and pedestrians to pay attention and follow the law to prevent injuries.” Trucks can be particularly dangerous for many reasons.
All drivers must take reasonable measures to avoid colliding with pedestrians. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. If a dump truck driver fails to take reasonable steps to avoid colliding with a pedestrian, their employer could be held at fault through a civil claim. There are many potential errors a truck driver may have made when hitting a pedestrian.
It has been estimated that 93% of all collisions involve some amount of human error. Sadly, though, truck drivers and their employers will often do everything in their power to deny liability if they kill a pedestrian. They may try to blame the victim or other third parties. This is why it is so essential that all fatal pedestrian accidents are properly investigated by an independent party. The family of any person who died in a pedestrian collision may be able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian killed in this collision. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD. It is our sincere hope that steps are taken to prevent other tragedies like this.
