The retina is the thin layer of tissue with the important job of converting light into electric signals. Any damage to this layer can result in loss of vision, which may not be reversible.
Lawsuits are mounting against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the maker of the medication, alleging that the company failed to warn patients about the risk of vision problems and the need for regular eye exams.
In June 2020, Janssen updated the drug’s product labeling to warn of vision problems. The label now states that Elmiron can change pigments in the retina, which can result in blurred vision, reading problems and sensitivity to light. The warning also states that users of the drug should have their eyesight regularly tested.
Gersowitz Libo & Korerk, P.C. is representing Elmiron victims and demanding Janssen to compensate our clients for medical bills, lost earnings, and pain and suffering. The claims against the company for damages caused by Elmiron are not class-action lawsuits. We bring each claim separately, although most of the suits are joining into a multidistrict litigation (MDL), which will expedite the negotiation and settlement process.
If you or a loved one has developed maculopathy eye damage after taking Elmiron, you may be entitled to compensation. The statute of limitations to file a claim is short. In most states, you only have one or two years to seek justice. So, victims should consult an attorney right away.
