4-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured After Being Hit by School Bus on East 2nd Street in Midwood, Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (October 4, 2025) – A 4-year-old girl was critically injured after being hit by a school bus along East 2nd Street between avenues I and J.
New York City officials are saying the collision took place around 5 PM on Monday. The girl was walking on E. 2nd St. when she was struck by the yellow school bus.
The force of the impact knocked her to the ground, causing major injuries. Paramedics and police officials were called to the scene of the collision to help her.
She was taken to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition. A full investigation into the Midwood school bus crash remains ongoing.
School buses are normally very safe for their passengers. But they can be especially dangerous for pedestrians and those in smaller vehicles. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 128 people nationwide in 2023, up 23% compared to the 104 deaths in 2022, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” School bus drivers should take many steps to avoid collisions.
School bus drivers must operate with a great deal of caution to avoid colliding with pedestrians. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care in order to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. When drivers fail to avoid a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil action. Any person injured in a school bus accident should take certain measures to protect their rights.
It can be difficult to know where to begin after being injured in any school bus collision. This is especially true for parents whose children are injured. It is important that they understand that they do have options. They are able to seek some accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in a civil claim can help cover medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the family of the girl injured in this Midwood school bus collision. It is our sincere hope that she is able to make a full recovery. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the NYPD.
