Liability for Manhattan Bus Accidents

Far too many people are seriously injured or killed every year in accidents with buses. According to The Journalist’s Resource, “on average, about 63,000 buses [of all kinds] are involved in an accident each year; about 14,000 result in an injured person, and 325 result in a fatal injury.” Bus drivers should take several actions to avoid collisions.

  • Bus drivers should check their blind spots before making turns in the roadway.
  • Bus drivers should always slow down in areas with heavy traffic.
  • Bus drivers should be well rested before heading out onto the road.

Bus drivers are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with a great deal of caution to avoid collisions. Bus drivers must maintain their vehicle at a safe speed. If a bus driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could be considered negligence. Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Organ damage

Victims of bus accidents are protected by a number of laws. They are able to seek some measure of justice and accountability through a personal injury claim. Damages in civil claims can help cover lost, wages, medical bills, and pain and suffering. A personal injury attorney can examine the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
