Investigation Underway After Newark Gas Line Explosion Injured Four People
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY (March 14, 2026)—Four people were injured in a Newark gas explosion accident at 86 Magazine Street.
New York officials are saying that the collision took place around 12:20 PM on Saturday. For undetermined reasons, a gas line ruptured.
The force of the blast caused the façade of a nearby home to fall into the street. Three adults and a 16-year-old child were injured in the blast.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the incident to help all of the victims. A full investigation into the cause of the gas slide rupture remains ongoing.
Gas leaks remain a major cause of preventable fires and home explosions. According to Green America, “In just 2015 to 2017, there were 12 deaths and 10 injuries reported from natural gas pipelines in the US. Pipeline explosions also cause millions of dollars in damage and evacuations.” Gas companies should take a number of measures to prevent explosions.
Gas companies have a legal obligation to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition. When they have actual constructive notice of a dangerous condition with their property, they must take action. Failing to take action could form the basis of a negligence claim; in any event, someone is entering a gas explosion. Any person injured in a gas explosion may be able to pursue damages in a personal injury claim.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to all of the people injured in this Newark gas explosion. Any person who may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
