Construction Worker Injured After Falling Down 30-Foot Hole In Hudson Yards, Manhattan

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (June 20, 2025) – A construction worker was seriously injured after falling down a 30-foot hole at a construction site in Hudson Yards, Manhattan.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 10:30 AM on Monday morning. The construction worker fell a considerable distance and hit his head.

Paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim. He was transported to the hospital with a major head wound.

There are reports that a piece of heavy machinery may have been involved in the accident. A full investigation by OSHA remains ongoing.

Liability for New York City Construction Accidents

The construction industry continues to be involved in many serious workplace accidents every year. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, β€œIn 2022, nearly 1 in 5 workplace deaths occurred in the construction industry and 38.4 percent of these deaths were due to falls, slips, and trips. The construction industry accounted for close to half, 47.4 percent, of all fatal falls, slips, and trips in 2022.” Construction companies should take several measures to protect their workers.

  • Workers should be provided with fall protection when working at heights above 6 feet.
  • Workers should receive all training necessary for their position.
  • Workers should be provided with all safety equipment necessary for their position.

Construction companies and general contractors can be liable for accidents where a worker is injured in a fall. Building owners and general contractors are strictly liable for gravity-related accidents under New York Labor Law 240. This includes instances when a worker falls or is struck by a falling object. To keep workers safe, construction companies may need to install guardrails or scaffolds. Victims of construction accidents often suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Workplace accidents can be enormously consequential for workers and their families. Many of those injured in a construction fall suffer permanent injuries that impair their ability to be gainfully employed. They may also be forced to give up hobbies and activities that brought their lives joy. Any person injured in a construction accident may be able to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
