Liability for Gibbstown School Bus Accidents

Many people are killed or seriously injured each year in school bus accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 110 people nationwide in 2024, down 14% compared to the 128 deaths in 2023, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” It is important that certain actions are taken after any school bus crash.

  • The police should be called to the scene as early as possible.
  • All of the medical records related to injuries should be collected.
  • Photos of the accident site should be taken.
  • The family of any person who died should seek an independent review of the crash.

School buses are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. If a school bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian in the roadway this conserve as evidence of negligence. The family of any person who died in a school bus accident may be able to see some of justice and accountability through a wrongful death claim.
