Many people are killed or seriously injured each year in school bus accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “School bus-related crashes killed 110 people nationwide in 2024, down 14% compared to the 128 deaths in 2023, according to National Safety Council (NSC) tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).” It is important that certain actions are taken after any school bus crash.
School buses are considered common carriers. Their drivers must operate with an abundance of caution to avoid collisions. If a school bus driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a pedestrian in the roadway this conserve as evidence of negligence. The family of any person who died in a school bus accident may be able to see some of justice and accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the child who died in this collision. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong.
