Car accidents often result in many serious injuries and deaths across New York and the United States. According to the National Safety Council, “2022 marks the first decrease in deaths since 2019. Deaths decreased 2% in 2022 following an 11% increase in 2021 and an 8% increase in 2020. In 2022, 46,027 people died in motor-vehicle crashes compared to 46,980 in 2021 and 42,338 in 2020.” There are a number of factors that could contribute to a car accident.
All drivers must use caution in order to avoid hitting other vehicles on the roadway. They must slow down and scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards. This is particularly important in dense urban areas across New York City. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting another vehicle, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.
Car accidents are often highly preventable. They tend to be the results of drivers that are traveling too fast for the prevailing conditions. In many cases, there could be several different factors that contribute to a single crash. It is important for accident victims to understand that they do have legal rights. They are able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
