Multiple Injuries Reported Following Queens MTA Bus Accident

Eight People Injured Following MTA Bus Accident Involving Light Pole By 57th Road and Main Street

QUEENS, NEW YORK (March 27, 2026) – An estimated eight people were injured in a Queens MTA bus accident by the intersection of 57th Road and Main Street.

New York City officials are saying that the collision took place on Friday. A Q-20 bus was heading down the road when a bus driver may have misjudged how close a curb was.

The bus driver jumped the curb before proceeding to crash into a light pole and ticket machine. The force of the impact caused major damage to the pole as well as the bus.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the victims. In all, 8 people were injured in the collision.

It remains unclear if the bus driver involved will receive any citations.

Liability for Queens MTA Bus Accidents

A number of people are injured in MTA bus accidents each year in NYC. According to one report from the New York Post, “At least 2,520 people — or 2.7 per day — were injured [from 2015 – 2018], according to the MTA. At least 14 people died, including a 25-year-old skateboarder, a 62-year-old pedestrian, a 60-year-old motorist and a 70-year-old with a walker who was mutilated by a hit-and-run bus.” Victims of bus accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Bus drivers are expected to exercise a great deal of care to avoid causing harm to their passengers. They must maintain a safe speed at all times and continuously scan the road ahead of them for potential hazards. If a bus driver departs from their own lane of traffic and collides with another vehicle, this could be construed as negligence. Any person injured in a bus accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a personal injury claim.
