Woman Killed In Upper East Side Hit-And-Run Car Accident

Police Searching for Driver Involved in Deadly Upper East Side, Manhattan Pedestrian Accident by Second Avenue

UPPER EAST SIDE, MANHATTAN (March 26, 2026) – A 69-year-old woman has tragically died in an Upper East Side hit-and-run car accident along Second Avenue.

New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A woman was walking when she was hit by a black SUV that was turning onto 57th St.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident to help the victim. Sadly, she died due to her injuries.

I witnesses are saying that the driver of the SUV was navigating the roadway in a reckless manner prior to the collision. Police are currently searching for that driver.

Liability for Upper East Side Car Accidents

Speeding remains one of the leading causes of car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, killing 12,151, or an average of over 33 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,922.” Drivers should take a number of actions in order to avoid collisions.

  • Drivers should continuously scan the road ahead of them for pedestrians and other hazards.
  • Drivers should slow down when pedestrians are close enough to pose a hazard.
  • Drivers should abstain from alcohol and other intoxicating substances.

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. When drivers continued driving after being involved in an injury collision, they could also face criminal liability for their actions. The family of any person who died due to the negligent actions of another driver may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
