Speeding is one of the major causes of car accidents across New York. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2022, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” Drivers should take several steps in order to prevent collisions.
Drivers must take reasonable measures in order to prevent collisions. There is a rebuttable presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that goes past a yield sign without stopping. It is important that certain steps are taken after any car accident.
The vast majority of car accidents are preventable and involve some amount of driver error. This may involve instances where drivers are distracted or simply not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them. It is crucial that accident victims understand that they do have rights.
