Left Turn Leads To Serious Car Accident In Niagara Falls By Hyde Park Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue
NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK (September 28, 2024) – Two people were injured in a Niagara Falls motorcycle accident by Hyde Park Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue.
Niagara Falls police are saying that the collision took place around 4:48 p.m. on Friday. A woman was making a left turn in a 2008 Ford Fusion in front of a Harley Davidson.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victims. Two people were taken to the hospital in order to receive treatment for broken bones and internal injuries.
Motorcyclists are much more likely to be seriously injured in a collision than those in passenger vehicles. According to the National Safety Council, “Although motorcycles make up only 3% of all registered vehicles and 0.7% of all vehicle miles traveled in the United States, motorcyclists accounted for 14.6% of all traffic fatalities and 3.5% of all injuries in 2022. A factor that directly influences motorcycle fatality trends is helmet use.” Drivers should take several steps to avoid colliding with motorcycles.
Drivers must always act responsibly and take steps to avoid collisions. According to New York Vehicle Code 1141, “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right of way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close as to constitute an immediate hazard.” It is important that certain steps are taken after any motorcycle accident.
It is estimated that 93% of all car accidents involve some amount of driver error. This is particularly true at intersections. Drivers often fail to check their blind spots and turn into the paths of vehicles. Any person injured in a car accident may have legal recourse through a civil claim. A motorcycle accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
