New York City Police Investigating Manhattan Park DUI Car Accident That Left Three People Dead
MANHATTAN PARK, NEW YORK (August 22, 2024) – Three people were killed in a Manhattan Park DUI car accident, according to the NYPD.
New York City officials are saying that the incident took place around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday. Numerous pedestrians were gathered when they were hit by a Ford F-150 truck that ran a stop sign.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the collision in order to help the victim. Despite life-saving measures, three people died due to their injuries.
Driver intoxication remains one of the leading causes of car accidents in the United States. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were all preventable.” Even small amounts of alcohol can substantially impair a person’s ability to drive safely.
It is illegal for any driver to operate their vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If a driver causes a collision while having a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. The family of any person who died due to the negligence of a drunk driver may have legal recourse through a civil claim. It is important that certain steps be taken after any DUI collisions.
It can be hard to know where to begin after a DUI car accident. Drivers will often do everything in their power to deny responsibility. This is why it is so important to seek legal counsel as early as possible after any DUI collision. A personal injury attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
We at Gersowitz Libo & Korek, P.C. extend our deepest condolences to the families of all those killed in this collision. This was a preventable tragedy that should have never taken place. Any person with more information should reach out to the police.
