GREENACRES, FLORIDA (November 2, 2026) – Nine people, including a 20-year-old co-pilot, were killed in a plane crash on South Military Trail near a mobile home park in Greenacres.
Palm Beach County officials are saying that the crash occurred around 12:50 PM on Sunday. The victims were on a Learjet 60 that had recently departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
It was bound for the Bahamas with two crew members and a total of seven passengers. At approximately 12:47 PM, crew members reported that this plane was experiencing turbulence and light clear ice that was manageable for the pilots.
They contacted the control tower and were given permission to ascend to 37,000 feet to avoid precipitation. Less than a minute following that contact, a Mayday call was initiated and the jet began descending rapidly.
The jet eventually struck the ground on South Military Trail near Cresthaven Boulevard. It left a burning crater in the ground, not far from the entrance of a mobile home park.
Firefighters and first responders were called to the scene of the incident to help all of the victims. Sadly, all nine people on board the jet died due to their injuries. A man in a nearby vehicle also suffered some type of leg injury following the crash.
The FAA is currently conducting an investigation to determine what happened.
Jeff Korek and the attorneys at GLK Law have extensive experience handling aviation accidents. They represented the family of Carlos Berl, who died in a plane crash during the production of American Made, starring Tom Cruise.
GLK Law also represents two of the passengers injured when a seaplane made an emergency hard landing on the East River near East 23rd Street in Manhattan on July 5, 2026. The pilot issued a Mayday call before the aircraft hit the water hard enough to snap a wing strut, and our firm is investigating the cause so we can hold the responsible parties accountable for our clients’ injuries.
In addition to those cases, the firm represents families of the victims from the Hudson River helicopter crash in Jersey City, New Jersey. If you have been affected by a Florida plane crash, don’t wait to take action. You can reach out to us anytime for assistance at (516) 908-9792.
Florida has a wrongful death act that allows family members of any person who died in an accident caused by negligence to bring a legal claim. Under 14 CFR 91.3, the pilot in command of any aircraft is directly responsible for the safe operation of that aircraft and must strictly adhere to all aviation regulations. This includes following all rules related to flying into icy weather conditions. Florida law also allows corporate entities that owned or operated aircraft to be vicariously liable for the negligent conduct of their workers. Responsibility for any plane crash will typically hinge on several key factors.
Liability for any plane crash could extend to multiple different entities. Consider, for example, Vreeland v. Ferrer (Fla. 2011). The Florida Supreme Court considered a wrongful death claim that was brought on behalf of a passenger who died along with a pilot when the aircraft they were in crash-landed. The company that leased the aircraft argued that a federal statute shielded it from liability because it did not control the aircraft at the time of the crash. However, the court held that vicarious liability can apply to aircraft owners and lessors, even when the aircraft is not in their immediate possession.
Commercial flights involving larger aircraft tend to be very safe. The vast majority of crashes that occur happen in private aviation. This is in part because smaller aircraft tend to lack many of the safety features and redundancies found in commercial jets. However, charter flights tend to face tougher regulations than private flying. Icy conditions are a major potential hazard for these flights. An NTSB safety alert reported by AOPA found that a quarter inch of ice on a wing can raise the stall speed significantly. Several steps should be taken after any plane crash in Florida.
Plane crashes tend to be highly complex events. The factors that contribute to any plane crash can take place many hours or days beforehand. These factors can include pilot training and design decisions on the part of aircraft manufacturers. Unfortunately, charter companies and their insurance providers are not likely to accept responsibility if one of their aircraft is involved in a major incident. This is why it is so important that these incidents are properly investigated by an outside party.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the nine people killed aboard a charter jet in Greenacres. We hope this investigation brings accountability and safety improvements that prevent other families from facing the same loss. This crash raises a number of important safety concerns that need to be addressed related to flight operations during periods of severe weather conditions. In particular, what weather information was available to the people who planned the route that this jet took?
