ROXBURY, NEW JERSEY (April 29, 2025) – One person has tragically died, and another person was injured in a Roxbury car accident near the intersection of Howard Boulevard and Mount Arlington Road.
Roxbury police officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:30 AM on April 28. A 2003 Chevy Express van crashed into a tree for undetermined reasons.
The driver of the van was transported to Morristown Medical Center to receive treatment. Tragically, a passenger within the van died due to the severe nature of their injuries.
It remains unclear what could’ve caused the van operator to lose control before crashing into the tree. A full investigation into the Roxbury collision remains ongoing.
Speed remains one of the most common contributing factors for car accidents. According to the National Safety Council, “Speeding was a factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities in 2022, killing 12,151, or an average of over 33 people on a typical day. The total number of fatal motor-vehicle crashes attributable to speeding was 10,922.” Drivers should take a number of measures in order to avoid collisions.
All drivers have a legal obligation to use caution in order to avoid collisions. Commercial drivers must be particularly cautious. They must exercise a great deal of care in order to avoid causing harm to their passengers. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that loses control of their vehicle and crashes into a fixed object like a pole or tree. It is important that the circumstances surrounding any collision are properly investigated.
The vast majority of car accidents are entirely preventable. They often involve drivers who were speeding. But it is also possible that one or more drivers were simply distracted. It is important that victims of car accidents understand that they do have legal options. In particular, the family of any person who died in an accident may be able to pursue some measure of accountability through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the person who died in this Roxbury collision. Any person that may have more information about what happened should reach out to the police. There needs to be some accountability for the sake of the victim’s family.
