Long Island Police Investigation Fatal Pedestrian Crash Along Deerfield Road in Watermill
WATERMILL, NEW YORK (July 25, 2026) – A pedestrian has tragically died in a car accident on Deerfield Road.
Watermill police officials are saying that the incident occurred around 8:30 AM on Friday. A pedestrian was running northbound when she was hit by a four-door sedan that was traveling southbound.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help the innocent victim. Fortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. A full investigation remains ongoing.
Thousands of pedestrians are killed or seriously injured every year in vehicle collisions. According to the IIHS, “Deaths from motor vehicle crashes with pedestrians have increased 72% since reaching their low point in 2009 and account for 18% of crash fatalities. The rates of pedestrian crash deaths per 100,000 people are highest for people ages 20 and over.” There are many common causes of pedestrian accidents.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian in the roadway, this could be used in a negligence claim.
