BROOKLYN, NEW YORK (April 30, 2025) – A national grid worker was seriously injured in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn after a gas main rupture.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place on Thursday between Colonial Road and Ridge Boulevard. The worker was performing some type of repair on a natural gas transmission main in the street.
There was some type of accident that resulted in a major release of gas. Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene in order to help the victim.

Despite continued improvements in workplace safety standards, many workers are seriously injured or killed in accidents every year. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Fatal occupational injuries in the state have ranged from a high of 226 in 2017 to a low of 114 in 2010. Nationwide, a total of 5,283 fatal work injuries were recorded in 2023, a 3.7-percent decrease from 5,486 in 2022. These data are from the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI).” Workers face a variety of different hazards as they go about their jobs in New York.
Companies have a legal obligation to provide their workers with reasonably safe working conditions. A company could be liable for a worker who was injured if it was caused by dangerous working conditions. Pursuant to New York Labor Law § 200, “All machinery, equipment, and devices in such places shall be so placed, operated, guarded, and lighted as to provide reasonable and adequate protection to all such persons.” It is important that certain actions are taken after any workplace accident.
An injury in the workplace can have very serious, long-term financial and medical implications for workers. An injured worker may need to take extensive periods of time away from their profession. Once they do return, they may not be able to perform their job duties at the same level they did previously. This is why it is so important that any person injured in the workplace seek the guidance of an experienced attorney. An attorney can help injured workers recover all of the legal damages that they may be entitled to.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the national grid worker injured in this accident. It is our sincere hope that they’re able to make a full recovery. There needs to be a thorough investigation into what went wrong so that similar accidents can be prevented.
