Liability for Cortland County Dump Truck Accidents

Dump trucks can be very dangerous for those in passenger vehicles. According to the Engineering News-Record, “Dump truck accidents severe enough that the vehicle had to be towed away rose 9%, hitting 8,206 in 2016, the latest year statistics are available.” Several factors may contribute to dump truck collisions.

  • Dump trucks have large blind spots that may obscure the presence of smaller vehicles.
  • Dump trucks have a high center of gravity, which can lead to underside collisions.
  • Dump truck drivers may become fatigued from working long hours.

All truck drivers have a legal obligation to exercise a great deal of care in order to avoid collisions. Many collisions are due to drivers who are speeding. If a dump truck driver fails to slow down in order to avoid a collision, this could form the basis of a negligence claim. Victims of dump truck accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.

  • Broken bones
  • Head injuries
  • Lacerations
  • Spinal cord injuries

Dump truck collisions are often highly preventable. They tend to involve situations where one or more drivers are disregarding traffic regulations. It is important that accident victims understand that they have legal options after any collision. A truck accident attorney can examine all of the unique facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.
