It does not yet know what speed the train was traveling, but train engineers have to greatly reduce speed during that stretch of the track to avoid derailment. According to the New York Times, the train conductor stated that he “dumped the breaks” when he entered the curve to greatly reduce the train’s speed. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
The train was traveling from Poughkeepsie to Grand Central on Sunday morning and carrying 100 to 150 people.
