Forever Chemicals Linked To Breast Cancer Leach Into Our Food

New Study Finds That Forever Chemicals (PFAS) Associated With Breast Cancer Leach Into Our Foods Through Packaging

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK (September 24, 2024) – Nearly 200 forever chemicals linked to breast cancer are commonly found in food packaging, according to a new study.

The study was published on September 24 in the journal Frontiers of Toxicology. In the study, researchers identified 143 chemicals used in plastic packaging linked to breast cancer.

Another 89 chemicals were found in the paper or cardboard of the packaging. Researchers concluded that there is strong evidence humans are regularly exposed to 76 of those chemicals through their diet.

This study comes out shortly after another study by the same group found 3,600 chemicals leach into our food during packaging.

Liability For Illnesses Caused By Forever Chemicals

Long-term exposure to forever chemicals is linked to a wide variety of negative health outcomes. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, “These animal studies have found that PFAS can cause damage to the liver and the immune system. PFAS have also caused low birth weight, birth defects, delayed development, and newborn deaths in lab animals.” A number of cancers are also linked to forever chemicals.

  • Kidney cancer
  • Testicular cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Pancreatic cancer

Depending on the facts of any case, companies that package foods could be liable if someone is injured by their products. Companies have a legal obligation to ensure that their products are reasonably safe. When a company has actual or constructive notice that their products are linked to cancer or other illnesses, they must act. It is important that certain steps are taken after exposure to forever chemicals.

The illnesses associated with exposure to forever chemicals may not appear until several months or years later. Sadly, though, many of the companies that put forever chemicals into their products know that what they are doing is unsafe. But they simply do not care. They would rather save money than make products that are reasonably safe. Any person that sustains an illness associated with forever chemicals may be entitled to seek some measure of justice through a civil claim.
