White Van Involved In Oceanside DUI Collision That Critically Injured Woman

OCEANSIDE, NEW YORK (July 2, 2026) – A 78-year-old woman was seriously injured in an Oceanside car accident on Long Beach Road by Weidner Avenue.

Long Island police officials are saying that the accident took place around 5:00 PM on Thursday. A 70-year-old woman was crossing in a crosswalk when she was hit by a white van that pulled forward after a red light.

Paramedics responded to the scene of the crash to help the injured woman. She was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries, including a brain injury and a lacerated liver.

Authorities suspect that the driver involved may be intoxicated. He has since pled not guilty to driving while intoxicated and vehicular assault.

A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Liability for Oceanside DUI Accidents

It is illegal for a person to operate a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. According to the NHTSA, “Every day, about 32 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes — that’s one person every 44 minutes. In 2024, 11,904 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths.” Many drivers do not realize the variety of substances that could potentially impair them besides alcohol.

  • Marijuana
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Opiates
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Muscle relaxants

If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting any pedestrian in the roadway, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that goes past a yield sign without yielding. Victims of car accidents are protected by a number of laws. In particular, the family of any person killed in a DUI collision is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
