Investigation Underway After Two People Killed in Queens Motorized Scooter Accident on the Queensboro Bridge
QUEENS, NEW YORK (May 28, 2026) – Two people have tragically died in a Queens motorized scooter accident along the Queensboro Bridge.
New York City officials are saying that the accident took place around 8:30 AM on Thursday. One person was riding a standup motorized scooter when they were involved in a collision with another person on a bike.
Paramedics were called to the scene to help both of the victims. Both were transported to Weill Cornell Surgery at New York Presbyterian-Queens in critical condition.
Sadly, both people died due to the severe nature of their injuries. A full investigation remains ongoing at this time.
There has been a sharp rise in accidents involving motorized scooters across New York and the United States. According to AMNY, “NYC is seeing a deadly trend: A surge in crashes, including fatal ones, involving motorcycles, scooters, e-bikes and other two-wheeled motorized devices this year.” There are several factors that could contribute to a scooter accident.
If a driver fails to slow down to avoid colliding with a cyclist or other pedestrian, this could serve as evidence of negligence. Liabilities to a scooter app extend beyond any specific driver. A municipal entity could be liable for a collision if it was caused by a dangerous condition on public property. The family of any person who died in a crash is able to seek some measure of accountability through a civil claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the families of the two people killed in this crash. Any person who may have more information should reach out to police. There needs to be a full investigation into what happened so that similar tragedies can be averted.
