NYPD Searching for Driver Involved in Deadly Corona, Queens Hit-and-Run Car Accident
CORONA, QUEENS (January 4, 2026) – One pedestrian has died and another was injured in a Corona, Queens hit-and-run car accident on 102nd Street.
New York City officials are saying that the collision took place around 4:05 a.m. on New Year’s Day. A white SUV was heading southbound on 102nd Street when it hit both of the victims.
Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision to help them. One man was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
The other person was pronounced dead at the scene. The NYPD are still searching for the driver involved in the crash.
Pedestrians are uniquely vulnerable to the hazards posed by motor vehicles. They are more likely to be overlooked and lack the protection provided by cars. According to the NHTSA, “Pedestrian fatalities per year steadily decreased from the late 1970s to 2009 when the United States reached a low of 4,109 deaths (Reish, 2021; Schneider, 2020).” Victims of pedestrian accidents tend to suffer very serious injuries.
Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with any pedestrian in the roadway. Among other things, drivers should check their blind spots before making turns and intersections. Drivers must also slow down when approaching any pedestrian in the roadway. If a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a pedestrian, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. The family of a person who died in a pedestrian collision may have legal recourse through a wrongful death claim.
We at GLK Law extend our deepest condolences to the family of the pedestrian who died in this collision. It is our sincere hope that the other person will be able to make a full recovery. Any person who may have more information should contact the NYPD.
