Two Dead, One Injured in Rochester Wrong Way Collision on the Inner Loop

New York State Police Investigating Fatal Rochester Head-On Collision on the Inner Loop

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK (June 28, 2026) – Two people have tragically died and one person was critically injured in a Rochester head-on car accident on the Inner Loop by Joseph Avenue.

Rochester police officials are saying that the accident took place around 1:25 AM on Friday. An SUV was traveling into oncoming traffic when it apparently collided with a Ford.

The force of the impact pushed the Ford into the path of a jeep. The driver of the Ford and a passenger in that vehicle were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A 39-year-old woman in the SUV was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. An investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.

Liability for Rochester Car Accidents

Drivers must use caution to avoid colliding with other vehicles on the roadway. To that end, they must operate their vehicle at a safe speed. According to NY Veh & Traf L § 1180, “No person shall drive a vehicle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing.” Multiple actions should be taken after any car accident in New York.

  • The police report created after the crash should be sought.

  • Medical records related to injuries should be collected.

  • Eyewitnesses should be interviewed as early as possible.

  • Victims should consult with an experienced attorney.

If a driver fails to abide by traffic regulations and hits another vehicle, they could be held at fault through a civil claim. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that enters into opposing lanes of traffic before colliding with another vehicle. These types of accidents are nearly always preventable and the result of drivers that are not paying adequate attention to the road ahead of them.
