New York State Police Investigating North Hills Semi-Truck Crash on the Long Island Expressway by Exit 34
NORTH HILLS, NEW YORK (June 1, 2026) – At least three people were injured in a Nassau County semi-truck accident on the Long Island Expressway by Exit 34.
Nassau County officials are saying that the accident took place around 11:30 p.m. on Friday. A semi-truck was heading down the roadway when it collided with the rear of a Honda Civic.
Firefighters and paramedics were called to the scene of the crash to help all of the victims. One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
A full investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Speeding remains one of the major causes of preventable car accidents across New York and the United States. According to the NHTSA, “For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. In 2024, speeding was a contributing factor in 29% of all traffic fatalities.” Truck companies should take several actions to prevent collisions.
If a truck driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting a vehicle, this could serve as evidence of negligence. There is a presumption of negligence on the part of any driver that collides with the rear of another vehicle in their own lane of traffic. If a truck driver rear-ends a vehicle, their employer could also be held at fault. A carrier could also be liable if they hired a truck company with a poor safety record.
We at GLK Law extend our best wishes to the people injured in this Nassau County truck accident. It is our sincere hope that all affected will be able to recover. This was a preventable crash that should have never taken place. Any person who may have more information should reach out to the police.
