TROY, NEW YORK (April 30, 2024) – A teenager was injured in a Troy collision that tragically killed his dog at the intersection of 6th Avenue and 101st Street.
Troy Police officials are saying that the collision took place on Saturday evening. A 15-year-old boy was walking with his dog when he was hit by a vehicle.

Car accidents remain one of the leading causes of serious injury and death. According to the New York Department of Health, “Injuries to pedestrians are among the top 10 leading causes of injury-related hospital admissions and death for almost all age groups in New York State. Approximately 300 pedestrians are killed and 15,000 are injured by motor vehicles each year on the state’s roadways, and more than 3,000 pedestrians are admitted to the hospital annually.” There are a number of common causes of pedestrian collisions.
All drivers have a legal obligation to exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians. Pursuant to New York Vehicle Code 1146, all drivers must exercise due care to avoid hitting pedestrians, bicyclists, and domestic animals in the roadway. When a driver fails to slow down to avoid hitting pedestrians, this could form the basis of a negligence claim.
